Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain and head can distinguish even minor changes caused by cerebral circulatory disorders, brain tumors, and structural changes typical of Alzheimer’s disease, even in the early stages of the disease. Magnetic resonance imaging provides additional information when there is suspicion of, for example

- Suspected brain tumor

The carotid arteries carry blood to the brain, and their narrowing can increase the risk of cerebrovascular accident or even stroke.
Magnetic resonance imaging is an accurate and safe way to examine the structure and blood flow of the carotid arteries – without harmful X-ray radiation.
Testing is typically recommended if you have experienced:
- recurrent or unexplained dizziness
- you have suspected carotid artery stenosis, blockage or carotid artery dissection
- visual disturbances or temporary loss of vision
- numbness or weakness in the limbs
- memory problems or confusion
- suspected TIA or stroke
- previously diagnosed risk factors such as arterial disease or high blood pressure
